Adam Beatty

Adam is the CEO of Nephila Syndicate Management based in London.  Since joining Nephila in 2013 Adam has had responsibility for the administration of Nephila’s Lloyd’s syndicate platform, where he is also the Active Underwriter for Syndicate 2357 and for investor relations in Europe.  Nephila is in the process of transitioning to its own Lloyd’s managing agency and expects to complete that process, subject to regulatory approvals, in mid-2019.

Prior to joining Nephila in January 2013, Adam was a Managing Director with Willis Capital Markets & Advisory, the Willis Group's investment banking unit, based in New York and London. He focused on projects such as catastrophe bond structuring and origination, and transaction structuring and capital raising for the catastrophe risk asset class. From 2004 to 2006, Adam was the Chief Financial Officer for Willis's global reinsurance business, Willis Re.

Philipp Kusche

Partner & Global Head of ILS and Capital Solutions, TigerRisk Capital Markets & Advisory

Philipp Kusche joined TigerRisk Partners in April 2016 as Partner and Global Head of Insurance-Linked Securities (ILS) and Capital Solutions.

Philipp comes from Swiss Re Capital Markets in New York where he most recently was the Head of their ILS Structuring and Origination team covering Insurance Companies, Hedge Funds, Governmental Entities, and Corporate Clients in the U.S., Latin America, and Asia. He joined Swiss Re Capital Markets in New York in 2006 and was responsible for and instrumental in creating and executing billions of dollars worth of CAT bonds, sidecars, contingent capital structures, and other alternative capital products for clients globally, while maintaining a strong focus on product development. As part of such activities, he developed relationships with many key ILS and other institutional investors and maintained a close dialogue with other stakeholders in the ILS space. In addition to such sell-side activities, he structured, priced, and executed a large number of CAT derivatives, mainly on a parametric basis, providing protection to a variety of clients. Philipp joined Swiss Re in 2002, and was initially based at its headquarters in Zurich as a management trainee. Working mainly in the Chief Underwriting Office, he quickly advanced into the global Energy Practice as a property underwriter in London and Zurich.

He graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering from the Bauhaus University in Germany and a Masters Degree in Civil Engineering from the Swiss Federal Institute in Zurich (ETH). His Masters Thesis, supported by Credit Suisse, was on public-private partnerships and their potential in Switzerland.

Garyfalia Leledaki
Business Development Manager, HSBC

Garyfalia is a Senior Business Development Manager at HSBC in the Issuer Services division. She is a qualified lawyer and holds a Masters in Banking and Finance Law. Garyfalia’s experience includes working on transactions in the International Debt Capital Markets arena and Insurance Linked Securities where she is well versed in all aspects of transaction formation.  In her current Business Development Manager role, she is responsible for supporting clients during transaction execution, primarily in Structured Finance & Insurance Linked Securities across a number of jurisdictions and asset classes.

Prior to joining HSBC, Garyfalia was a senior relationship manager and transaction manager at the Bank of New York Mellon where she worked on a number of bespoke complex structured transactions in the securitisation and CAT bond space. Garyfalia has also worked at RBS in the Legal and Compliance team.

Malcolm Newman

Malcolm Newman is the Managing Director of SCOR’s EMEA Hub, he is also the Chairman of the International Underwriting Association (IUA), the trade body for the London (re)insurance company market. Malcolm is a member of the Board of the London Market Group (LMG) and the Chairman of its Brexit taskforce and the Insurance Linked Securities (ILS) taskforce. Malcolm is a Chartered Accountant who has worked in the London Market for the last 37 years.


Paul Schultz

Paul Schultz serves as CEO of Aon Securities and leads Aon Benfield’s investment banking team, responsible for providing investment banking products and services to Aon’s clients on a global basis. Paul specializes in providing clients with strategic advice and access to capital markets.

Aon Securities has developed a market leading practice advising clients on M&A, starting new companies and transferring insurance risk to the capital markets. Paul began his career in banking in 1986 and spent 14 years at JP Morgan (its predecessor banks), specializing in the Insurance Practice from 1989. Since joining Aon in 2000, Paul has advised Aon plc on issuing the first ever securitization of private equity limited partnerships and advised clients on M&A, starting new companies, issuing senior and subordinated debt, issuing equity and raising alternative capital via the issuance of catastrophe bonds, sidecars and other collateralized structures and derivatives thereof.

Paul earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Northwestern University. Paul also earned a Master of Business Administration degree from Kellogg School of Management. Additionally, Paul is a Chartered Financial Analyst.

Matthew Swann
Principal, Hiscox Re ILS

Matthew Swann is Principal, Hiscox Re Insurance Linked Strategies, a US$1.6+ billion ILS fund manager within global specialty insurance group Hiscox Ltd (LND: HSX).  Matthew joined Hiscox in 2007 as a catastrophe modeler where he developed retrocession pricing tools before moving to reinsurance underwriting in 2011.  He joined Hiscox Re ILS in 2015 as Portfolio Manager and is currently responsible for advising on investment and product strategy, and business development.  Matthew holds a geography degree from the University of Oxford and a PhD in climate prediction from the University of East Anglia.

Gareth Truran

Head of Department, London Market Supervision, PRA, Bank of England

Gareth Truran became Head of Department for London Market Supervision at the PRA in June 2013.  In that role he leads the department responsible for the supervision of the international commercial insurance and reinsurance sector operating in the UK, including the Lloyd’s market.  As well as being responsible for the PRA’s supervision of firms in the London Market, he has overseen and sponsored the design of the UK regime for Insurance-Linked Securities.  He has also led a number of PRA initiatives covering thematic reviews of the market’s underwriting controls, the response to large insurance loss events, and the assessment of firms’ management of cyber underwriting risk, all of which have led to PRA publications and industry feedback.  In 2017 he also became Chair of the IAIS Supervisory Forum, which brings together senior insurance supervisors from a number of leading global insurance markets.

Prior to his current role, Gareth spent two years leading the PRA’s supervision of UK retail and commercial life and general insurers.  He also worked on the transition team responsible for setting up the PRA and developing its approach to insurance supervision.  Before that he held a number of senior firm supervision roles at the PRA’s predecessor, the FSA, leading its supervision of a number of high-impact banking and life insurance groups.  He represented the FSA for a number of years on the Joint Forum, a senior international group bringing together banking, securities and insurance supervisors.  Gareth moved to the FSA in 1998 having previously spent three years working in analyst roles at the Bank of England, and some time working on pensions issues at actuarial consultancy Bacon & Woodrow.  He holds an MSc in Mathematics from the University of Warwick.


Michael Wade

Michael Wade has enjoyed a long career within the London Market insurance industry culminating in his appointment in 2013 as the Crown Representative for Insurance at the Cabinet Office for a 2 year term to advise the UK Government on insurance and reinsurance risks – this has included Pool Re, the formation of Flood Re and other projects. He also advised the former & current Chancellor of the Exchequer on the Insurance Linked Securities markets. In 2015 he was appointed a Senior Advisor to the Cabinet Office. He was appointed (2016) a Senior Advisor to Swiss Re and (2017) a non-executive Director of Neon Underwriting – a Lloyd’s managing agency owned by American Financial Group and appointed Non-executive Chairman of TigerRisk Capital Markets & Advisory (UK) Ltd.

Michael was made an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List of 2018 for Services to Government & the Economy.

Michael began working at Lloyd’s as a trainee aviation underwriter with C E Heath in 1975; he then joined Hartley Cooper as a reinsurance broker before forming his own firm, Holman Wade Ltd in 1980 specialising in London Market reinsurance of which he was CEO until 1993. In 1984 Holman Wade merged into H. Clarkson & Co shipbrokers and, once combined, was floated on the London Stock Exchange in 1986 as Horace Clarkson plc where he also remained as a Director until 1993.

Following the Lloyd’s crisis, Michael addressed the need for corporate capital and formed Corporate Lloyd’s Membership in partnership with Sedgwick Group plc. They launched CLM Insurance Fund plc which was the first listed Lloyd’s vehicle of 1993. He ran CLM until 1999 and during this time it developed from a spread portfolio to acquiring its own Managing Agency then merging with SVB at Lloyd’s (now Novae Group owned by AXIS Capital Holdings).

In 2000 Michael formed Rostrum Group – a specialist investment manager focussed upon Lloyd’s listed vehicles on behalf of a series of major UK pension funds on a five year contract; from 2006 he was a partner in Optex Group to develop the Industry Loss Warranty (ILW) market and, in 2011 merged Optex into Besso Insurance Group in which he had acquired the Wells Fargo shareholding. Michael sold these interests in November 2012 and retired from executive responsibilities.

Michael was elected to the Council of Lloyd’s in 1988 and served until 1992; during which time he was also a member of the key Rowland Lloyd’s Taskforce, working closely with McKinsey & Co to analyse and recommend a route forward for the troubled Lloyd’s insurance market. He founded the Lloyd’s Community Programme in 1989. He was a Member of Lloyd’s from 1980 to 2014.

Michael Wade is an Approved Person by both the UK Prudential Regulatory Authority and the Financial Conduct Authority.
